Dr. Joseph Koval was born in Orange County, New York, and moved to Kentucky before high school. After graduating from Oldham County High School, Dr. Koval attended the University of Louisville (U of L). He was a patient of Mortenson Family Dental founder, Dr. Wayne Mortenson, and credits Dr. Mortenson for establishing his interest in dentistry. He took that interest to U of L’s School of Dentistry and graduated in 1996. Dr. Koval helped establish Mortenson Family Dental’s La Grange practice before settling in at the Shelbyville West location, where he’s been for more than 25 years. Dr. Koval enjoys the relationships he has built with his established patients and continues to focus on building relationships with new patients.

Dr. Koval and his wife, Holly, have three children, Nicole, Haley and Ryan. Nicole and Haley are now hygienists with Mortenson Family Dental, making dentistry a true family passion. In his spare time, Dr. Koval enjoys boating, visiting the Florida keys and restoring his classic Mustang.
